Oh now now. Next on Geraldo: "When jaded ravers talk about religion". Heh.
Putting aside the rather pungent sounding "Atheistmas" for a moment, and focusing on the real tone of Mr. Statik's message, which is that this time of year is now focused more on the giving and receiving of presents (commercial aspect) and being with friends and family (social aspect) without any religious meaning, we all know that progress and events over time changes the meanings of all things exactly in tune with how the majority of people live in the present and where they want to see themselves in the future.
So, if Christmas doesn't mean Christ's birthday anymore to a large percentage of the population, you, as with those people opposite to you, just have to respect that. It is human nature to go beyond the spiritual and into the real, and we must be tolerant of this in order to ensure progress.
If you personally choose to, which it seems that you do, continue to hold your beliefs close to heart, strengthen your community of fellow worshippers by being faithful, but select tolerance to those who do not share your beliefs rather than preaching, because to some, it is like matter and anti-matter.
And you know what Scotty says about matter and anti-matter.
I am tolerant of other beliefs...whether it means anything to anyone, I still feel I can inform people what it was about. Whether the choose to agree or not is their own choice. I'm not telling them how to live their lives, or anything, just pointing out the obvious.
it's like arguing with a pothead that marijuana isn't addictive and that it doesn't affect peoples brains...it does, but people just choose to ignore that. Drunk driving? What's that? No one drives drunk....until they happen to kill someone.
Society is full of complacency... people forget the meaning of christmas because society has become lazy and doesn't share the meaning of it. Kids grow up thinking it's all about the presents...get what I'm saying? I know what Hanukhah is about, and many other "religious" holidays. I may not be of those various faiths, but I respect the meanings behind their choices of holidays.
This wasn't aimed as a flame at kelly statik either, was merely a response to his renaming of the "holiday". :P
OH THATS JUST IT , YOUR ALL DEAD FOR MAKING THIS SERIOUSsuch4prettymessDecember 16 2004, 07:24:56 UTC
herm this is much more serious then I wanted. But no I havent baught any gifts for anyone. MINUS my bestfriend but its her birthday on the 19th. A major reason for it being the biggest holiday is because everyone makes it that way. And why? sadly because prolly gifts are involved.
Halloween is the biggest holiday for me. And instead of being totally cranky through this holiday season I thought I would maybe remind myself of what I liked.
If you talk to people all around Christmas seems so forced. Not enjoyable.
JAZZY >:( IM GOING TRICKER TREATING AT YOUR HOUSE NOW hahaha
One thing for sure, it is hard to have a serious, yet light-hearted conversation about religion in the modern world when everyones spiritual experience differs from one another.
I know it was light-hearted ya goomba. Too bad you can't set your "mood" on LJ comments. It was a reflection, a comment, a french-word-that-makes-you-sound-smart.
I am not a blasphemer. I am quite loyal to the Royal Order of Sloth. ;) I even have the mark of the cheeseburger on my ass.
