I hate to be an ass, okay, really I don't. So no buts. Anyhow, it kills me when people make comments like this, "I just recently purchased the canon rebel xt (not my dream camera but in my price range)." That's like saying, as a newb, I'm far above this camera, and although I take shitty photos with whatever camera I'm using, including the camera I just got, which is below me, I would have just assumed to waste a whole wad of cash by purchasing a bigger, better, camera, although the camera's ability to function at capacity would be compromised by my skill and lack of knowledge, as it is with this "lesser, sub par" camera that I purchased with the money I had.
In the same thread, the person who bought the camera that is below her mentioned her laptop's SD slot in response to someone suggesting she buy Sandisk. I spent literally months researching cameras before I bought both Eleanor I and my little S60. Months, because I wanted to make an informed, well advised decision, and not waste a penny. If you spend a grand (or close to-- or more, most definitely) on a camera, you should know the difference between SD and CF, and know that SanDisk isn't SD, but a brand of cards that manufacture BOTH CF and SD cards. I know I'm a gear head, and not everyone is, can be, or for that matter, even wants to be, but lets learn some basics before we drop a load of cash on a little toy, m'kay people?
Another thing that kills me is when people ask if they should buy the EOS 300D/350D or the Rebel/Rebel XT. Again, if you're going to spend that kind of money on something, at least know all the TWO WHOLE different names (okay, 3, really, if you count KISS) that the camera is called.
There's a wealth of information available to us, at our finger tips, we're on the internet anyhow, all day long, day after day, why not use our resources instead of simply wasting time on myspace, facebook, porn sites, and checking our email for the lovely spam that our dear friends and family forward us? It isn't that difficult to find this basic information, information that makes you seem like, although you may still be an idiot, at least you're an idiot who puts forth effort to learn something on occasion.
/end rant. ;)
