I totally forgot to tell y'all about my weekend last, whence I spent most of the day Sat. at the Hensonfest - i.e., a celebration of all things Jim Henson, including puppet-making and showings of Dog City, one of the "Storyteller" episodes called "The Soldier and Death", The Dark Crystal (new 35mm print, all shiny and pretty), and Labyrinth. (The Muppet Movie and some other things were shown the previous wknd, which I missed.) I had forgotten how cheesy Labyrinth was, with the David Bowie videos interspersed. His tights and prominent bulge got some snickers from the audience, too. But it was cool to see 16-yr-old Jennifer Connelly - what a babyface she was! Dark Crystal was, of course, completely awesome - I don't remember whether I saw it in the theater originally or on cable, but seeing it in a small theater, with a crisp new print, was really lovely. And I'd never seen "Dog City" or "The Soldier and Death" before - the latter starred Graham Chapman as the soldier, and John Hurt was The Storyteller, with fun prosthetic ears and lots of makeup. The woman I went with bought Season 1 of The Muppet Show on DVD - I may have to buy it too.
