This n' that

So I saw the endocrinologist on Wednesday. A new doctor has taken over the practice, and although I found her to be very efficient and professional, she lacks the warmth in her manner that her predecessor possessed. It makes talking to her less pleasurable, though I cannot fault her in the execution of her duties.

The numbers side of the check up was a pleasure for me. I've lost 10 pounds since my check up in November, so SubHub's diet is working well for me, at least. That's 55 pounds since April 2009, and I'm finally beginning to see a difference in my body mass, which seems less than before. I ordered a lot of new cold weather clothing (after being stuck with only one real jumper during the horrid weather in February) in my usual size, and some things are rather big on me.

Also, my A1-c, that blood test that measures the blood sugar over a course of time, is now "off the chart" they use at my doctor's office. It's gone from 6.1 in November to 5.6, which is within non-diabetic range. The dietitian was terribly cute; she wrote the number in at the top of the chart and drew a smiley face. I haven't had a smiley face on my "homework" in years, LOL! She seemed genuinely happy with me, and it occurs to me how difficult her job must be with clients who are not compliant with what's prescribed for them.

Cholesterol was excellent, and the HDL number is rising, though I'm not where they want me on that one, yet. My triglycerides are down from near 300 to 140.

Modern medicine is miraculous, y'all. I'm just sayin'.

I checked out a boatload of Leonard Cohen music from the library and have ripped it onto my hard drive to investigate at my leisure. I also have the DVD about him, which I hope to watch this weekend. I'm so thankful Mara and Annie turned me onto this amazing man. There's something so poetic and appealing about his work; it speaks to the Muse.

I've written 1500 words on chapter 7 of Owned, which makes me happy.

I've finished the second in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie King, which I am enjoying immensely. I am about halfway through the second in The Hunger Games series, called Catching Fire, which I find to be a good read. In audio book land, I'm in the middle of the third of the Millennium series, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

That's about it from my house. Hope all is going well for you. Hugs to them as wants 'em!
