Small Worlds Collide
When we went to look at our new place, the couple who lives there mentioned that some people who were roommates in a non-romantic way had been in to see the place before us. The current tenants were skeptical about them wanting the place, because one of them would've had to live in the tiny closet bedroom. Their conclusion was that the house was just too small for two people who weren't sharing a bedroom.
It turns out that they were interested in the house. In fact, at least one of them has been talking rather excitedly about it.

Without knowing it, my wife and I scooped the house that her friend was hoping to lease. We're only two degrees of separation from someone who's going to be pissed off that we're moving into this house.
I think that's how it works. If I know someone who knows him, that's two degrees, right? Or is that only one degree?
