Gusty winds and spattering rain, we are getting a little fallout from hurricane Irene, but not too bad. Some of the creeks are overflowing and I lost my arbor of morning glories and my tall sunflowers, but that's to be expected. I'm just hoping not to lose power, communities all around are out, what a dull day it will be without the music and internet and lights to finish cleaning by! Not to mention no coffee or tea!!!
I went out this morning and rescued a couple Austin roses, they are trying to come back now that the Japanese beetles are lessening. I am so in love with the one on the right, I can't stop drinking it in. I've loved old roses all my life, and the Austin variety lets me have them most of the season. It's not easy to keep roses alive here in the northeast!
I wish I had one of those distressed borders to frame it with, but I can't be bothered to find one online right now. I'm taking a cleaning break. The room I've been using as a studio is predictably littered with odds and ends and excess furniture. I found a spider's nest as deep as Shelob's lair and a huge spider guarding it! Oh, I hated to suck it up in the vacuum, but I couldn't have spider babies in the house....and now I'm afraid to empty the vacuum bag! It makes my skin crawl to think of it in there, and I'm ashamed to admit that I rubber-banded a plastic bag over the end of the hose. I'm not usually afraid of spiders! Does anyone know if they can survive being sucked up in the vacuum cleaner, and for how long???
