I eat too much candy too. glambat November 7 2008, 04:47:38 UTC
The mouth cam bit was GREAT. And I'll choose to believe the burning the face off bit was a tribute to the similar death in Halloween 2, one of my favorite horror movie deaths, just because I both loved and was repulsed by it so much when I first saw it in my youth.

I think I'm in love with Castiel. That actor is so dreamy, and plays the part so well. You're right though - MEH to Uriel. And way sledge hammery with the not at all veiled - 'just because you think God says so doesn't mean you're right' stuff. I happen to agree and all, and am pleased the writers of a show I love are like minded, but in the interest of the longevity of the show, maybe making their attempts at comments on society be actually, I dunno, subtle? Might be good.

Do you think they assume (and hey, maybe it's right) that their fan base is primarily younger than us? Like 12-18 year old girls? Is that why for the sledgehammer all the time? Even if that's why, I wish they wouldn't feel the need to be so "do you get it, huh?" about things. Even the 12 year olds will figure it out, Kripke and co.

I know that it's required for the plot exposition and all, but it still kills me when they write Dean not knowing basic shit. Like, he didn't know Mina and Jonathan Harker and Lucy in ep 5? REALLY? And even more, he didn't know who the fuck Samhain was? COME ON. At the very least, he likes Halloween and would presumably have seen the movie Halloween, right? Grr.

Hi! I'm late responding, but I'm here, really I am! I also just watched the next ep and OMG Ted Raimi yay!! I'm wondering if the mouth-cam thing was in preparation for a Raimi on the set. *smile*

I have to go watch Halloween 2 again. I forgot about that scene! I got more of a Jason X feel from it. Did you see that one? Where Jason put blonde-gal's face into a (totally random) sink full of liquid nitrogen? So much fun...

I do think that the SPN writers write for a younger fanbase, but I also think they're doin' it wrong, you know? It's too much. Then again, they're on the CW, not HBO.

AND OMG YES about Dean not knowing basic shit. I think it's another example of weak writing. They have to get the info out there, so one of the main characters asks another character for it. But BY GOD there are other ways to accomplish that!

Also, I've started watching True Blood on HBO. Have you seen it? It's got a sort of opposite thing to Supernatural going on - the storylines are so very high-school, but the sex and drugs and craziness are all notched up because it's on HBO. And, great theme song.

Oh man. When Ted Raimi's name was in the credits I screamed YAAAAY! Aw Ted Raimi.

Oh man. I love Jason X. It's so bad it's awesome. My favorite part is still when he beats the girls in the sleeping bag against the tree. Good times.

Ok, what's weird is as I was reading your comment, I thought, oh, I should ask if she likes True Blood and then you mentioned it! Braiiiins.

So. I started watching it kind of as a joke, because on the recommendation of a well meaning friend, I read the first book of the series it's based on, and while it has clearly made for an entertaining show, holy stupid vampires Batman is that some bad writing. But now I totally love the show. I love it a lot. Even when it, and the characters are stupid. Though I think the writing on the show is actually pretty good most of the time. It knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything other than a Southern Fried Vampire Soap. With drugs and nudity. GOOD TIMES.
