Well as it turns out, Hurricane Charley is going to come ashore right on top of us. Literally. It's expected to land either in Tampa or, as the weatherman says, "to the west of Tampa," which is Clearwater. Which is us. So, we'll be caught up in the thick of it! It's supposed to do so tomorrow night at 8 pm, and by that time, should be a category 3 hurricane (out of 5). The local news station is foaming at the mouth over this and we saw a Fox News van at the beach today. I felt compelled to shout nasty things at them. I hate Fox. Why? Read Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them by Al Franken (which is really funny) or simply watch Fox News for 5 minutes. It generally causes me to start screaming and ranting.
The beach was great today. Tropical Storm Bonnie has sent us lots of wind and the waves were really high and strong. I waded in three feet into the surf and was knocked over and sent under. My mom fell and lost her prescription glasses, but took it well. The water was also EXTREMELY warm. Nothing like New England ice water, which I happen to like, but ah well. Warm is good too! The waves were so strong, my brother's trunks kept on being sucked off him, but luckily underwater so we couldn't see it but could still laugh at him. The best of both worlds in my opinion!
We almost couldn't find our towels though, because the wind had buried them in three inches of sand in the space of 15 minutes. And earlier these same winds had provided us with a tornado watch, of which nothing has come of.
So, if I don't post tomorrow it's because the power's gone out and we're camping out with our friends and providing shelter to their relatives. I'm hoping we'll get more of the excitement and less of the danger.
