There are no words to describe the love I feel for Rufus Wainwright, the most melodious pink blur I have yet to see.
He was AMAZING tonight. Ben Folds left something to be desired, as his sound crew must've screwed up royally and he himself had a cold. The only lyrics we could really understand were those shouted along by the crowds, which were generally, "FUCK!.....FUCK!.....FUCK!...." You get the picture.
And then a lot of the bastards crowd left before Rufus could even start.
It was a great set, although he did three new songs that I wish he'd replaced with older songs, but hey, they were fun too! His little sister Lucy Roche accompanied him. She's got a WONDERFUL voice. Very low.....ALTOS REPRESENT!
Set List: Order is probably wrong....
Maker Makes - new one!
The Art Teacher - Amazing guitar substitute for the french horn solo. There aren't really any drums in the recording, but the drumming tonight totally changed the song. Oh so good....
Rebel Prince - Ohh....the French!
The One You Love - First real rocker.
Hometown Waltz - Drummer played the flute very bashfully.
Vibrate - HE HELD OUT THE ENTIRE VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII....bit and didn't crack BRATE! w00t!!!!!!!!
Katonah - Sounded very country.
Poses - I was shrieking as soon as I heard the piano begin...
Between My Legs - Despite dubious lyrics, VERY fun melody.
Memphis Skyline - Sweet and slow...
Beautiful Child - Jump up and down! Guitar took over trumpet parts very aptly.
Pretty Things - He had restart this one after saying, "You know what! I'd like to dedicate this performance to Ted Kennedy!"
Hallelujah - Most beautiful version I've ever heard. Seriously. Stupid Leonard Cohen and his marching millions of back up singers. Lucy was great at harmony.
Gay Messiah - Ah....what an anthem.
Encore: Little Sister! Very cute considering his wee sis was there, and he wrote it partly for her.
