I've always wondered how Naruto ended up in a crap apartment rather than being bullied about in a poor-but-clean orphanage. And all kids need caretakers - thus, the ANBU guards.
*looks shifty as to what happened to Naruto's infant-period caretakers* ANBU!
*snorts* Kishi it the ultimate authorial troller. I have to wonder if he's trying to keep his hired assassin characters *pure* by not letting them deliberately and directly kill people. He should take a serious look at his characters' combat stats. Lee, despite being touted as an *amazing* taijutsu nin, has only ever won against a ninjutsu-copied version of himself. Naruto would be a terrible teammate - he runs off all the time, flies into murderous rages, can't do team tactics, loses his head in stressful situations, and doesn 't notice when a giant flying snake-monster kidnaps his teammates. Sasuke got himself terribly wounded while killing a guy on death's doorstep from TB, *helping* to kill an old man with one foot in the grave, and got credit for a suicidal artist who killed himself. I think Kakashi's only ever killed Haku *accidentally*. Yeah... Logic is not kind to the Naruto-verse.
