To prepare:
The contestant should become infected with a mildy vicious bug. This should render the contestant croaky and muddleheaded, but not bedridden. There are no restrictions on chemical supplements to allow for "Soldiering On" during the event. Allow the condition to mature over the course of a week.
Then in a 24 hour period (start around midday) ...
Rally Stage 1 (Coastal)
Without a map, navigate to a mystery location in unfamiliar territory. (Landmarks will be provided, but, Sydways how do I miss thee). This will take approximately 2 hours.
Planning Stage
Once you have arrived at mystery location, plan two on-location photoshoots. You will make a well respected community musician resemble a magical or mythological creature. All effects must be in-camera, no post-production will be permitted. All photography will be transparencies or prints, no digital is permitted.
At all times the contestant will have approximately 15 kilograms of 'gear' to carry. While use of 'gear' is not mandatory, any and all components may be required while the contestant is shooting on location.
Photoshoot Stage A (Iron Man event)
Proceed to shooting location A before dusk. You will be shooting "cold", with no pre-event recon or research of the site. This shoot should involve the musician playing an un-amplified musical instrument weighing in
excess of 10 kilograms. Double bass, Tuba and Percussion are recommended. Piano, while permissible is not recommended as it is required that instrument be transported from mystery location to shooting location.
Location A will involve soft sand, and ability to remain calm in breaking surf is recommended.
Gastro-Musical Stage
On conclusion of the shoot, return to mystery location. There a member of the support team will prepare a sumptuous feast of Asiatic cuisine for consumption. Two bottles of wine must also be consumed during this stage. Additionally, the musician will prepare and present a 30 minute presentation of their personal musical ethnographic journey.
No more than four hours sleep may be had between the Gastro-Musical stage and Rally Stage two. There may be random interruptions during this time.
Rally Stage 2 (Mountain)
Proceed to shooting location B before dawn. This will take approximately 2 hours of driving (by the contestant). While the musician will be familiar with the route, it should be to a location unknown to the contestant. During this stage, the contestant should also become familiar with an artist mentioned in the
ethnographic presentation.
Photoshoot Stage 2 (Expeditionary)
With all equipment necessary for photoshoot, proceed on foot for between 30 minutes and and hour. This location should be inaccessible by land and water vehicles, and require a winch line in excess of 100 meters if accessible by helicopter. Obviously, all clothing changes and makeup of the musician should
occur at the location. Shooting should occur in early dawn light. Creative use of environmental scenery will be favorably considered. Carry all equipment back to car. (remember the illness, and the lack of sleep!)
Final
On return, encounter respected peer of musician. Converse and proceed to finish point. Deposit film for judging. Results will be awarded within 24 hours.
I wonder if Penelope Swales had this much fun shooting the cover for Monkey Comfort
In short
pixie_b's wings were truly magical,
fearlessflight looked fantastic through the viewfinder and
oothoona is still a rockin' photographer's assistant and all-round wonderful person. And
fearlessflight's partner has an awesome sounding guitar and makes a mean
curry.
Must. Sleep. Now.
