The Triumph of Intellect and Romance Over Brute Force and Cynicism.....That just keeps running through my mind as I see the trailers for DW6. I loved DW5--Ferguson's silly song perfectly captured what made that season just a refreshing blast: it was a renewal, as well as an innovation. I loved the complexity of Moffat's timey-wimey plots, as well as his deep development of the characters--making them come to life.....And all indications are that DW6 will be even better.
I can't wait.
The bits and pieces give nothing away, yet, at the same time, make it clear that there is an intricate and fascinating story arc. Moffat really grasps the potential of science fiction and is both capable of and not afraid of presenting the audience with a truly intellectual, intelligent, demanding storyline. Try as I might, I can't guess where he's going. I can't outguess him. But I recognize the elements of an extraordinary season, just waiting to unfold.
And Romance. I also love that Moffat doesn't shy away from that. In fact, he embraces it. He celebrates it.
River Song. That scene in the garden, in "The Big Bang"--so perfect, right up to the tease that, any second, I expected a major lip lock between Eleven and River....and it didn't happen. My one wish for DW6: please let it happen--and there's the trailer, with the River/Eleven kiss.
What I appreciate even more: That I can rest pretty well assured that Moffat isn't going to decide, capriciously, to destroy this romance by suddenly ripping the established characters to shreds--suddenly indulging in a bout of Brute Force and Cynicism.
Fear me--I've killed all of 'em.
Possibly the most powerful line in all of New Who....Certainly--no contest, hands down, winner winner: the single best delivery of a line in all New Who.
It's forever until 4/23.
