I have to pay a pardon for an old criminal offence. If I try to go across without paying it then I'm automatically banned for 5 years no matter what and the car I'm in gets seized. All this for a tiny little bit of pot 13 years ago (and I wasn't anywhere near the US border when I got caught with it).
