Spring 2010 in Food, To Date

May 01, 2010 15:23

I finally got a business card binder for all my restaurant business cards. I did not - though I was tempted to - organize them by location. With the NYC cards, I organized them by favorite eats, and with the Taipei cards, by type of restaurant.

Soup from La Villa

Oohlong tea ice cream, from this bed and breakfast in Yilan. This bed and breakfast place grew their own tea leaves/plants/whatever, and made their own ice cream. So fucking good, hands down the best tea ice cream I've had to date.

My aunt from Malaysia is a huge baker, and her almond heart cookies are probably my favorite. They're crisp and airy, but not crumbly, though they pretty much just melt on your tongue.

The recipe she based it off of - Be-Ro's recipe book or something like that.

Lunch at La Villa. The soup was sooo good, though the pesto pasta with walnuts stole the show. Except, as it usually happens, I was too hungry to take pictures of the rest of the other courses.

...until I regain my senses after having stuffed myself. So I usually get shots of the end of the meal, like this caramel frappuccino, also at La Villa. We ate outside - BAD mistake b/c there are a ton of little bugs and I got bit ALL OVER. Holy hell. Then I had some kind of allergic reaction to it, it was like having chicken pox. Was the food worth it? Can't say; the itchiness was insane.

This is probably going to be the thing I contribute to the summer BBQs. It's called grayham and it's basically made of fruit, graham crackers, and condensed milk - frozen and eaten icy cold.
