The One Where SQ Leaves the Cave

I haven't been feeling my best lately, but when my friend Ponygroom invited me to take some pictures at the local dungeon, "The Woodshed". I didn't feel like leaving the house, but according to my therapist that means I really need to leave the house. I decided to force myself to make the trip to Orlando. And have fun. Dammit.

Normally, cameras aren't allowed at the 'Shed, but this was a before-hours event called "Zoo Day". Zoo Day is dedicated to those interested in pony play, pet play, and furries, though the majority were there for the human pony play. Unlike the last time I was at Zoo Day, there were two people there who didn't want to be photographed. While I'm sympathetic to them, I hate being limited. My favorite subject is two people are interacting, and when one member of a couple can't be photographed I feel as if I'm missing out. Plus, I have to be careful that they aren't in the background of any other shots. I don't dwell on this too much, though, since I consider it a privilege to be allowed to be there and take pictures at all.

There was another photographer there, K, who tends to annoy me. He gets a lot of deference and respect because His Pictures Were Once in a Magazine, but I am really unimpressed with either his knowledge or his technique (not that I'm Helmut Newton or Bunny Yeager, myself). Plus, his camera only seems to come out when there is exposed cleavage involved, which I think is unfair to all the participants that aren't scantily clad females. I shouldn't be too critical, though. I had a major brain fart and used the exact opposite settings I should have for low level light. Fortunately, after an initial quick check of the raw images it looks like most of them are recoverable.

I did meet another photographer there. I had seen and admired some of her work on the website Fetlife, and we had a nice conversation. It turns out that we have some of the same issues we work to overcome. It's nice knowing that you're not the only one having trouble with something.

If I'm really happy with any, I might post them here. For those curious, the June Zoo Day pics are here. There were three photographers involved with that one. My pics are 1a, 1b, 7, 7a, 10a-d.  Nothing particularly noteworthy among them, though I do like a couple of them.

After Zoo Day I went out to dinner and returned to the 'Shed. Met some old friends, and was joined by Lady M. She wanted to do a scene, but I had to turn her down. I wasn't feeling too fresh after several hours of sweating and crawling on the floor, and my head just wasn't in the right space that night. I hated to disappoint her, though.

All in all I'm glad I went.  Still feeling out of it, though.
