I noticed a few of my old livejournal friends had returned here to document these strange days we are living in and decided to do the same. I have taken hundreds of photos during this time. Right before it, I was fortunate to be able to take some time off. I changed gyms and went into the city almost every day, did a workout, ate ramen, wandered around in the warm Summer air, went to the art gallery. For a time I was researching this topic, for no apparent reason: " What were the ordinary people of Hiroshima doing before the bomb dropped?". I had been watching youtube videos of survivors and reading articles. Little did I know what was about to happen.
We heard reports of the Coronavirus and then suddenly, the city was shut down. On Saturday the 14th of march, the Ides of March in the old Roman calendar, I went to the city. there was nobody on my train. There were just a handful of people at the gym. I picked up my comics and returned home. The city was almost deserted and there was a strange feeling in the air. It did not feel safe or right to be there. I decided there and then that I would be staying home.
