Title: Resolving the Tension
Author: subplotter
Pairing: Mace/Capa
Rating: PG13 for insinuations
Disclaimer: None of this is mine.
AN: This is a follow-up to Unresolved Sexual Tension, Lips and Bodily Fluids, and Capa Kisses Mace, and I'm thinking this is the last in the "series."  I wanted to end it with the last one, but it was a bit too open-ended.  This one is quite short, but I think it sums up everything nicely.

Resolving the Tension

Mace and Capa are sitting in metal chairs in front of Searle's desk; Searle is sitting in something much cushier.

"So have you two had any physical confrontations lately?" he says.

"Well..." says Capa.  "Could you define 'physical confrontation?'"

Searle smiles.  "Physical: of or pertaining to the body, but you might prefer 'sexual.'  And confrontation: a meeting of persons face to face, but you might prefer--"

"Stop!"  Mace has his hands over his ears.

"I see."  Searle has a clipboard, and he scribbles something onto it.  This causes Mace to feel uncomfortable.

"What did you write down?" he says.

"Why don't you look for yourself?"  Searle sets the clipboard on the desk and slides it to face Mace.  Mace reads: Hostility shifted from Capa to myself.  "And why is that significant, doctor?"  He speaks the last word with disdain.

"It leads me to believe you've found some way to relieve the tension, once thick, between yourself and Mr. Capa."

"Well, you'd be mistaken."

"No, Mace," Capa interjects.  "He wouldn't."a meeting of persons face to facea meeting of persons face to face

"Capa--"

"I'm not going to keep it a secret."  And with that understated warning, Capa launches into a detailed explanation of all that happened in the payload room the day before.  "And then our breathing had pretty much returned to normal, and I helped Mace get up," he finishes.  Mace's face is burning.

Searle asks, "Is that what happened, Mace?"

Mace's voice is strained when he answers, "Yeah."

Searle is grinning.  "Has anything happened since then?"

Both Mace and Capa shake their heads.

"Then here's what I'm prescribing: Every time one of you feels stressed, go back to the payload room and...resolve the tension."

Capa's brow is furrowed.  "But Searle," he says.  "That's ridiculous."

"Is it?  I think it might just help you keep your heads."

"All I'm saying is...we'll be resolving the tension a lot."

"Oh my gosh."  Mace stands, supplementing the 'gosh' by extending his hands palms up.  "Shut up, Capa."

"That's right," says Searle.  "And I'd say Mr. Mace is a little stressed right now."

Capa sighs and exits the room, heading for the payload room, and Mace follows.  Searle drums his fingers on the desk.  When he laughs, Mace and Capa can hear it.
