So, I've finally decided to mention my desire for broadband internet access in the house to my father.
I left him the following note:
Father, here are the stats:
Using www.auditmypc.com 's internet speed test I have discovered that our bandwidth is 16.38 kilobits per second(kbps) now that AOL connects to this slower speed. I am guessing our connection before was around 48.0kbps. KILO being 1,000 and MEGA being 1,000,000 we would have to move our decimal three (3) places to the left to convert KILO to MEGA. Using dimensional analysis our 16.38kbps converts to 0.01638mbps. www.auditmypc.com 's speed test has generously rounded our value up to 0.02mbps. While browsing Road Runner's (RR) website I learned their service boasts speeds of 5.00mbps (5,000kbps). I do realize maximum performance is unrealistic, but with these numbers RR is over two hundred fifty (250) times faster than our current connection. Down to cash:
AOL is $23.99 per month, and I assume that our extra phone line is about 10 bucks a month. That leads to my guesstimated figure of $33.99 a month for AOL's 16.38kbps(0.01638mbps). RR is $29.99 for the first 6 months, then $44.99 a month thereafter for RR's 5,000kbps(5.0mbps). I am willing to pay the difference along with any initial fees (setup, etcetera).
Your dialup-Irritant son,
Robert
stay tuned for updates.
