The endless morass of this project.

A post on a Monday? Strange times, strange times. Or I'm just getting back in the habit of posting.

Working on this type of thing is just demoralizing. )

Working with people who have a loose grasps of ethics sucks.
Do you know when you'll stop working on this project, or is it one of the "no end in sight" kind?

It's puzzling to me, because I don't think of either of the relevant coworkers as generally unethical. Not that I know them that well personally, but they seem like generally nice people. According to project manager we need to sugarcoat the results because we have to maintain a 'good professional relationship' with the client, but given that they've repeatedly refused to do things they agreed to do, generally obstructed our efforts, and bitched about us not doing the things they agreed to do, all of which wasted enormous amounts of time and money, I'm not sure why we're falling over ourselves to keep them happy. a) they aren't happy and this won't change that, and b) they are terrible clients and no one, including the project and lab managers, wants to work with them ever again. Not that we should be jerks, but we could be a bit more blunt at this point. I don't really see how we even benefit from trying to make their program look good by fudging the results ( ... )

Ethics are tricky things. I think that for all of us, there are situations in which being ethical comes naturally, and others were our ethics break down, because of stress, or calls for "the greater good", and simply because sometimes it's hard to figure out what the correct answer is.
For instance, is it possible that this organization could blacken your image in the eyes of other potential partners? That might be an explanation.
