Apparate!

Haha, I WISH I could just have used apparition today...but regardless, I'm all moved in to my new apartment! Took ten hours-ish, and going up and down flights of stairs 30-odd times carrying furniture and boxes in 80 degree heat, but it's done.

The new apartment is so much more spacious...it's a really nice place. It'll probably take me a while to get used to though. All my stuff is in different places now lol.

The one thing I'm a liiiittle worried about is the fridge; it's a somewhat small one, and the current tenant had been living here alone for five months so I guess she got used to just using the entire space (which is totally reasonable). I guess I'll talk to her this week about maybe reorganizing it to make a bit more space for me...I only need a little space really, but I just want to have some area of the fridge to put like, cheese and eggs and milk and stuff. The freezer is also smaller, so sadly I will probably have to cut back on my frozen food supply (I tend to cook a big batch of something and then freeze a bunch of servings). Although, current tenant is storing like a couple pounds of frozen chicken so I could probably get a bit more space...I'm using maybe a third of it at the moment, and there's only two of us. The fridge is more pressing though, because I could barely fit in the small amount of food I still had in my fridge; I didn't buy groceries last week since I was moving this weekend and figured it'd be easier. I just need a BIT more space...

Moving into a place where someone has already been living for a while is kind of interesting, because you're sort of trying to carve out a space for yourself in someone else's turf. I put my little cupboard/cart thing in the kitchen and my chair out on the enclosed porch, though, so I feel like I have my own little space too. It's nice not having to store everything I own in my bedroom anymore lol. I even managed to fit all my food in the kitchen (the fridge is small, but there's WAY more cabinent space than at my old place) so now I don't have to keep boxes of dry goods in my closet or a box of canned food under my bed! I'm moving up in the world lol.

I still have to put up my posters and stuff, but overall things are in order and this place seems good. Ahhh, deciding to move and finding a place and then actually moving was stressful, but now it's all done...nice.

One other weird thing is...the door is SUPER hard to unlock, you have to jiggle the key into just the right position. I'm going to email the landlord this week and just politely ask whether there's a way to fix that at all...because I don't want to spend twenty minutes trying to get into the house every day. I'm sure I'd learn the trick eventually, but when a doorknob gets like that it's usually getting worn down and will eventually break, so fixing it seems like a good idea.

Oh sweet, current tenant just texted me to ask whether I was fully moved in and sleeping at this place now (I had told her I might take a little while to move in; I started moving stuff last week), and when I texted back yes, she texted back that she'd be back tomorrow or the next day and she'd move her stuff to one half of the fridge/freezer. So it was only all full because she didn't realize I was going to be finished moving in by this weekend. And now I don't have to have an awkward conversation asking her to do so! Yesssssss. Man, I wasn't even going to ask for a full half due to my chronic shyness, this should work out nicely. I'll still have to cut back on freezer stuff (I had basically the entire freezer at the old place because the two other roomates didn't generally keep frozen stuff), but that's fair enough, I should be able to fit everything I really need if I stack things efficiently.

This was a long and exhausting day (and I have this crazy giant bruise on my foot from dropping a thing on it), but I feel really good about this...I feel like this is a step forward for me, this is more of an 'adult' housing situation so to speak. Haha, it's stressful too though, just because any major life change can be stressful. It takes me a while to settle into new situations. But I think I'll like living here!
