“I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worth while?” Death thought about it “Cats,” he said eventually, “Cats are Nice.”
-Terry Pratchett, Sourcery
I have thought about this for a while now and I have decided that I always have leaves. I look up at trees with their gangly limbs and a weight lifts. There are always going to be leaves. This is always my fall-back pressure valve.
But this doesnt count for human hope. I have always maintained that hope is the most important thing that anyone can have and therefore made it a side-quest of mine to try and find what gives hope to other people. The more people think, the less hope they seem to have, which makes hope seem like an unsustainable idea, however hope is self-perpetuating, the more you learn the more you see there is to believe in. I guess the trick is believing in the right things and having enough around you to keep you that way. Or propel yourself sufficiently to navigate those hazy waters.
The most debilitating disease sometimes feels like hope. You can get stuck being deathly afraid of hope. And you can be stuck deathly afraid of losing hope and therefore you are obliterated, reality leaves and you cross the line between hope/believing and avoiding/fleeing.
it's the ultimate question. Isnt it?
