Erg...stupid people are stupid, but...ack...
Drives me nuts. Hehe, wanna know something that drives me nuts? The people that aren't happy with anything. People can be bending over backwards for them and they still complain and are unhappy. They murmer and speak dissent and rebellion. The talk to people that are otherwise happy and make them misrible. They aren't content to sulk with their self-percieved hardhsip and misery, they make it their mission to spread it to others as well. They speak of unfairness (who know nothing of unfairness) to people and make others believe that they, too, are being treated unfairly. Wicked and evil, injecting their venom into whole populations. They are a poison that kills good men, that violates good women. An acid that borns at any good things, consuming them slowly from the inside out. While good people are trying to make the world good, while they fight with imediate foes and with concerns that affect everyone, these snakes slither at their feet, biting into their calves and injecting poison while drawing blood. While the good, coragous, stalward ones fight darkness, darkness that would consume both the warrior and the snake at his feet, the snake can only think of itself and is only succeeding in making its own terrible end more likly. And all who are upright and honorable, all who support the campion and speak against the snake, them the venimous creatures lothe all the more, for they percieve their uprightness and honor as unfair since the snake doesn't have such things. In fact, they see everyone as better off than them and thus, everyone else should be at their beck and call, slaves and servents to the snake, serving the snake's beck and call at the expense of all else...for after all, everyone else has it better than them and the snake KNOWS it would do such a better job if it was in that place. But no, all the snake wants IS that place, having no regard for those people and responsibilities that go with the job.
...I'm speaking of the vile lords and kings in my book. They turn against the good leadership of the one they pledged themselves to, speaking against him due their own quests for power and their own lust and pride. They care not for their own people, even, such is their ambition. All they want is their own power, they want to be the one to whom all others bow the knee. So they abandon him, even on the eve of war. But not before sturring disention and anguish to the men in the warcamps. And all for their own lustful ambitions. They hack away at the very shield that protects them. The are a rust eating at the very sword that slays their enemies. Great is their folly, yet they do it still, showing truly what kind of men they are, and just how unworthy they are to hold the high kingship they so lust after.
But, why am I talking about a book thus? Simply, I see it in our day. I see it in my own life.
We all see hardship. We all suffer. Yet there are some that bear it nobly, and some even gladly. They even find time to show their true noble nature; even suffering hardship and pain themselves, they strive to help others and make the world a better place for everyone. As the snakes aren't content to keep their lothing to themselves, so are the good not content to keep their joy and nobility, they spread goodwill and goodness instead of badwill and unhappiness.
But I guess there is hope. For all these bad people there are, there are good ones still. And every Arthur also brings a Bedwyr, Cai, Cador, Gwalchivad, Gwynavyr, and more, in very lucky times, even a Myrddin. ^_^ There are always good people that don't turn on their friends and on other good people, instead banding together to fight evil and to keep the snakes from the ankles of their other people. Good and noble people that fight together with courage and conviction, that act instead of just talk. Those that don't cry out that evil is befalling them and they're all doomed, but instead who's every word instills courage in the hearts of those that fight for good, not just their own good, but the good of everyone. Alas, there aren't many of them. But each one does more good than the evil snakes can comprehend, saving even the snakes, and each one a boon companion through thick and thin to make the world a better place.
...so yup, there's still hope for us, even if there are a lot more snakes than Cymbrogi. ^_^ Those that fight for good, not just for themselves, but for their friends, and others (even sometimes those that would call them enemy), for all humanity and all that is good. But there are still a LOT of snakes, and they don't care who gets hurt as a result of their actions, only THEY matter, and only THEY deserve to rule and have power and a good life, and they lothe those that do. The don't realize that sometimes others have it bad too, maybe even worse, but that these others choose to do something about it. Indeed, the snake lothes most of all those that do for themselves instead of complaining about everything, those who are good and noble and coragous, and those who rise above and fight for all that is good...even though this is all that keeps the snake alive and able to complain.
...I, personally, would rather been on the side of Rhys, Anerin, and Lenlleweg; the heroes that overcome even the snakes and do good. ^_^
