gimme advice
Ok here's the situation.
I work at a 4star hotel in downtown Houston in the gift shop. I get 7 an hour and i have vacation days i wanna use up in december. I work alone and it's easier these days to switch around to be able to go out and go outta town because im buds with my supervisor and usually the shop closes at 8pm so im able to go out after that. Also, it's a good job if im in school because i get away with doing homework (but they are getting stricter now so i dont know how much more i can get away with)
The shifts are AM from 7-1pm and the PM one is 3:45-8 and if theres games (it's a baseball themed hotel) then we have to be open all day so usually 7am-2 or 3:30 and the next person comes in and stays open till 10pm. Im not in school this semester but i will be going back in jan. I need 30 more credits to get my degree so im REALLY CLOSE.
HOWEVER, I want to work at 420 (the smoke and porn shop lol) because my freind Sarah was tellin me bout it and it would be MY KINDA job because im tired of kissing ass at the hotel to all these rich white folk and business ppl. I want to dye my hair and have any look i can. I just feel like a total square at the hotel. 420 will start you off at 6.50 and then you get a raise in 6 months and so on. Also, they pay you every week which is RAD. But i get 7 and im SUPPOSE to already have a 30cent raise by now at the hotel.
ALSO, I GOT WRITTEN UP for not being bubbly enough and didnt greet this guy who checks up on the hotel! I SWEAR I DID. I GOT MY FIRST WARNING and it's BULLSHIT. This is how that went. The guy came in and startled me but i wasnt sitting down and i was just writting and he shouts "HI." "hi" "How are you?" "Im fine how are you?" "good" and then he just keeps smiling and doesnt say anything and walks away and i thought i was fine but it turns out he wrote a note to my General Manager "Gift shop girl has NO PERSONALITY and did not welcome me" ..i couldnt believe it! I hate the company. They dont care bout their employees. Plus, half the staff is leaving to work at another hotel.
Also, im suppose to look busy the whole shift but people wont come in for HOURS and they took out the stool so they make you stand up when there's NOTHING TO DO. I SWEAR YOU GET SO BORED. We just finish all the work fast: we finish re-stocking the candy or folding shirts. IT's A SMALL GIFT SHOP and there's just not a lot to do. Im not complaining bout that but the fact that it can be mentally torture for me when i have to re-fold the same pile of shirts for 7 hrs.
Ok and 420 shifts would be from 2-11pm and sometimes graveyard from 11-4am? or sometimes in the morning at 7 to 2 but thats rare. I dont have a car so it would be shady to wait around for my ride but im gettin a car soon. This is by RITZ CABARET so there's shady ppl alot and they want you to be mean to crackheads and prostitutes to get out the store which would be weird when im generally a nice person. However, i think i would make great sales since im used to kissing ass to customers at the hotel. He had a certain dialogue and i generally like to help people. I dont care bout what people think if i work in a porn/smoke shop. I dont watch porn and ive never smoked before but it doesnt bother me.
So should is this a good plan? To work somedays at 420 and less hrs at the hotel? Should i eventually quit the hotel?
I dont wanna quit because 1.I still have vacation hours i wanna use in dec and 2. it's decent for being in school BUT THEN AGAIN i can always quit after i use my vacation and just go to school all day some days and work at 420 other days BUT keep in mind the shift there is 2-11 PM! So that means some classes my not work with those hours and i dont know if i wanna do graveyard. I may go to classes EARLY and then work at 2. I also want a social life but sarah says it's not hard to get some nights off. The manager is really cool.
