home & healing

i'm writing a grand epic of the tale, so this will be brief. but last Tuesday, a car decided to ignore that i was coming thru the intersection (on my bike) and turned left -- in my path -- to which i had right-of-way -- and i almost got around her. almost. as in, not quite. when i finally landed, possibly 10 feet or more away, i had several cracked ribs, a right lung that was about to collapse 20%, a lacerated liver (yuk) and a nicely dented left shin. but the people on the scene were great, kept me calm and found all my pieces (things kind of scattered around the street) and the paramedics were awesome. the folks in the ER were terrific, and the friend who came and got my bike at 12:30 am was wonderful. getting a chest tube the next day (to relieve pressure and let my lung reflate) was easily the worst pain of my life, esp since it involved pressing hard against the busted ribs. jesus and a half. removing the tube was not much more fun.

but now i'm home, i have food and we got the heater back into action (a good thing with 24 degree temps and not likely to go much higher in the next week). i just have to take it easy for the next 2 months; i hope to be riding again by mid-Feb so i can ride the Worst Day of the Year ride.

anyway, i'm hoping i took one for the team and none of my friends have anything but peace, happiness and plentiful health.

peace,
subb
