At the Tokyo Dome Concert on Sat, the 18th during the Wink Killer game Yasu lost and had to do the Batsu Game which is to read a love letter to another member. They always decide who gets read to by playing Janken. The entire time, as they played, Subaru had this look on his face like, "Omg, please no XD." In the end it was down to Hina and Subaru (and I swear I held my breath XD I was like, Hina if you win I will kill you, haha XD). When Subaru won his reaction (and Yasu's) was basically, "FML! Kill me now ><" My reaction, however was, "Omg, yay 8DDDDDD!!!"
Normally, the Yoko teases the pair that has to do the letter but this time everyone just got serious and all Yoko did basically was give the letter to Yasu and say, "Ganbare!"
So Subaru stepped forward and Yasu needed a few moments to gather his courage before starting. The audience started teasing and going 'oooo' and they both smiled, embarrassed. Yasu was hesitant at first, but the more he spoke the easier the words seemed to come. However, he took his time (a long time actually; the longest letter I've seen so far) reading the letter, every word heartfelt. The way that Yasu spoke, the tone he used, was really soft and sweet, I can't think of another word to describe it other than romantic. It's hard to describe. It sounded very intimate; very affectionate. I think Ohkura put it best when he said afterwards that it sounded like pillow talk.
I found a few accounts of the letter on Japanese blogs so I took those and my own memory and put together the most accurate version of the letter I could:
To Shibuyan,
Um....
Thinking back, it must've been about a year and a half after I'd joined Johnny's when, there was another junior there too, but you let me stay over at your parents' house.
You gave me stuff to wear, like a leopard print hoodie and a brand name hat. At that time we were the same height so the hoodie was just the right size. And since then we've always worn each other's clothes.
After that, we didn't meet for a while. I was in V West when you came to one of our shows to sing. It was when you had the Lion hair. And I noticed that you had changed, that you were different from before. But we didn't really talk then.
Then we formed the group and somehow we started hanging out together all the time.
We'd go to karaoke together and sing songs like Glay's 'However.' We would originally go for two hours but we would get so into it that we would keep extending the time by 30minutes until before we realized it it was morning. Then, in the morning, we'd go home talking about how much fun we'd had.
For me, those days that were so commonplace, were happy, soothing, and something I relied on.
When we would go shopping, sometimes you'd casually say things like, "Yasu that looks good on you," and I would get really happy. And yet you couldn't ask the shop clerk by yourself, "Do you have this in an S size?" so I would do it for you instead. Can you do it yourself now?
[Subaru: Un. *shy nod*]
I'm relieved (haha).
We've always had a similar vibe when we talk or make songs together, and when we play guitar or sing I always feel an unspoken connection between us.
Everyone can sing, but in Eito you are the only one who can bring us together as a Vocalist.
You have a special charisma that is only Shibuyan's. I hope you can value that and please keep reaching out without closing yourself off or holding back.
Please continue to bring people joy and tears with your voice.
You are an important person in Eito that no one else can replace.
For me too, as a friend, you are irreplaceable.
I won't say (love me) the most, but whatever place I hold* for you, please love me.
From now on, please take care of me.
Thank you.
1* He used '何番目かに' which didn't really come across well in English so I changed it a bit.
After Yasu read the letter the other guys didn't tease. Yoko commented to Yasu, 'Why are you smiling? Then it's not really a batsu game!" And Yasu said, "As I read it it slowly turned out to be fun." Then he told Subaru that he had finally graduated because it was the first time Subaru was read to in the tour, and asked him how it felt. All Subaru said was that he was happy to be read to. They didn't hug or shake hands or anything, but Subaru bowed and Yasu gave a small bow too. Oh yeah, and again, Ohkura said it was like pillow talk. After that they went straight to the Proactiv CM. I wasn't sure if they'd simply run out of time because the letter was so long or if they just didn't really have much to tease about since the atmosphere was so thick, or maybe a combination of both, but that was that :)
I hope you guys enjoy~
Yasuba, yay! :D
