Planning a new fic~
This year, I burst onto the KakaSasu scene in February with Illuminating Heaven, my first anime fic!cherry, as well as my first Naruto fic endeavor. It was a 40,000-word multi-chapter endeavor set in Snow Country, that occurs when Sasuke is 18 and Kakashi is 31. It was quite the experience, writing this fic, and releasing it chapter by chapter, for the two months that followed.
By April, I had released the final chapter of Illuminating Heaven, and for a long time, I didn't think I would be able to write another multi-chapter fic. I had written what I believed to be my KakaSasu "master work," in the sense that this was the story I wanted to tell, and it was something that made me extremely happy and still does. Since then, I spent countless hours collaboratively writing for kannagara_rpg
I came to realize, as I was chatting with imlikat that there are still themes in KakaSasu I haven't explored: namely, SasuKaka. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how Kakashi could "save" Sasuke, but I never really thought what the dynamics would be like if the tables were turned. If somehow, the preconceived ideas of salvation are subverted, and what kind of impact that may have on both Kakashi and Sasuke. [SPOILER] Kakashi, as the acting Hokage, now plays a role very different from that of the jounin he previously was; the power relations that can be examined and Kakashi's own realizations of the broken system he has now the burden of fixing, sets up a kind of scenario that I never thought was even possible prior to Chapter 474. I want to treat this project with more care than I did with IH, which I didn't actually start careful planning of until Chapter 4. My lack of foresight shows in the lack of sophistication in the first three chapters of IH. The pacing is terrible, the writing is middlebrow, and I can't say I am pleased at all with the delivery. If I could do it all over again, I would rewrite the first three chapters, but as it is, the fic is a finished work, and I don't think I should revisit it, especially without my original beta editor, ka0richan, whom I am completely indebted to and miss dearly.
In any case, I will be planning and begin writing sometime in January. It is possible the first chapter will come out then, or in February, which incidentally, would be the one year anniversary of my debut.
Hopefully you guys will like it as much as you liked IH. :D
