I went to detroit this weekend with my roomie and a friend who is soon to leave for Valencia Spain.

About the Spain friend: he knows only a lick of spanish. And i have no doubt he'll get by. His brain was built by a spacial engineer and Steve Jobs. He doesn't have hobbies; he's got life and frisbee. Won't be seeing him for at least 8 months.

About Detroit: Woodruff, Alger square, the river, crossing south to Canada, and a bottle of lemonade and Black Velvet. We went to Jazzfest and never laid our heads down. Dave Brubeck. Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfPOSKbZmj8. The dozen of donuts we ripped through in Kalamazoo and the cheese fries at Coney Island. Bad for the Body, Good for the Soul.

Trees grow in vacant buildings and lots are scattered. We drove, with two Detroit natives, one saying "fuck laws this is detroit," the other not saying much about that except, that's a shitty attitude to have, things won't get better that way. My roomie and I were just sitting through the city while others drove. My forehead never felt so squished on a car window before. Car windows never felt so compacting.

To be sure: I love life.
