Dear friends,
I want to share an idea. Because I have moved to a new city, want to pretend I'm someone new, and miss my girlfriend when I'm not occupied, I'm making a new blog.
Its focus is going to be on letters, something I've always been fascinated with. Something that I've been thinking about for months because of my then-impending move. I want to do several things:
1. Scan people's old letters, ones that they find interesting.
2. Write letters to random people. Some old magazines (30 years old) included people's name and addresses. I want to post the chain of correspondence.
3. Talk about famous correspondences. Talk loosely about the joys of lettering.
4. semi-serious how-to-write-a-letter.
5. Post stuff I find on the net, street, radio, t.v., etc. about letters.
etc. etc.
Before I really put the effort into it, I want to make sure that I have enough to get me started. Would people be willing to send me some of their old letters? Do you have ideas for things? Do you want to help me?
Basically, I'm torn between my fascination for a site like postsecret.com and my my dissatisfaction with its pretences. I want to get rid of the sappy stupid stuff, and post more interesting, quirky, strange, and sometimes tragic letters that have a specific writer and addressee.
I am also really interested in Frank O'Hara's poem/essay "Personism."
Anyway, if anyone wants to help me, let me know.
