Musings about various fandoms

There seems to be a sort of slowness/half hiatus thing going on. No new episodes for this show, lots of new stuff for that show. Weird.

For some reason I've dropped a lot of telly shows this year (this season?). Also, quite a few shows have managed to disappoint me somehow. There are also excellent things going on, awesome shows, and a bit less awesome shows that make me feel good. :)

1. My old shows

Hmmm. I think the one thing I can say about all of them is 'they're trying too hard'. Some of the episodes are pretty meh, and then some stuff they try to do falls flat because it's too obvious that they're doing it just to please the audience. I have no idea why.

Individually:

- CSI: NY. Okay, it's starting to feel like flogging a dead horse. Last season could have been the final one, because you're not showing anything new. I love this show for various reasons, but at the moment, storytelling isn't one of them.

- NCIS. Gods, please drop the forced Tiva already. It would be awesome to see Ziva happy with someone, because though they have nice chemistry on screen, does anyone actually imagine she and Tony would be happy together? Besides, it'll be the end of the team, 'cause of rule 12.

- NCIS: LA. *yawn* Um... Oh. This one's still on? Whatever.

- H50. You know it's really hard to write H50. It's almost like when I used to babble a show called Babylon 6 all the time. For some reason my fingers just miss the number 5 every time... Also, I don't know where this show is going, but they could improve it by wrapping up the Jack White storyline pretty soon and by getting rid of the new girl. Kono is awesome and we don't need to see the new one embarrassing herself next to Kono.

2. My new shows.

- Grimm! For some weird reason (Eddie!) I actually like this show. Maybe it's the nostalgic feeling I get when I watch a slightly crappy show with slightly crappy acting and a tiny budget. Of course this show is not too good for my blood pressure because of some of the silly stuff they've got going on.

Mainly the fact that the leading male is probably the worst actor in the show. He's so boring he could make anyone fall asleep. And the character isn't much better. There are Big Bad Wolves around, they react to women wearing red and Nick knows this. So what does his girlfriend wear? A red coat? Are you trying to get her killed? Also, they're repeating tired old cliches about dating a cop/a superpowered guy. Boring.

The one good things about the show are of course Eddie (we loves him!) and the way most actors other than the one playing Nick are actually pretty decent. Did I mention Eddie yet?

- Alcatraz. Or, well, the show I thought I might enjoy watching. But since it seems to offer nothing I'm interested in (well, except for Sam Neill, who is always awesome), I won't probably bother beyond the pilot, which was annoyingly predictable. Also, what's with all the damn flashbacks anyway?.

3. Shows that are/have been making me crazy.

- TBBT: Okay, so everything seems just lame and recycled. I loved the sharp, geeky show with sci-fi references. I don't want to watch a dating program. Especially since the way they portray women pisses me off. Also, it's now becoming a soap opera with the recycling your ex thing and I really don't want to watch that. :(

Maybe it's mostly because I connect way better with the guys here than with the women. I'd like to have old school Trek marathons, make stupid jokes about various sci-fi classics and visit the local comic book store.

- Sanctuary: One week it's gold, the next it's crap. I'm having a hard time getting through the crappy ones.

- Supernatural. So what's this thing I've been saying for two years now? 'If you kill Bobby, I'll stop watching', right? So yeah. Bye bye SPN. It was fun while it lasted.

- Glee. Well, it's not making me crazy anymore, since I haven't watched it past the season premiere. :( I'm still boggled. This used to be fun. Oh well. The first season was good at least.

- Merlin. Oh man. :( I actually liked Uther (or liked seeing ASH on screen more likely). Also, I guess I need there to be something more than 'Merlin devotes his whole life to Arthur and keeps lying about his powers, Arthur is manly and becomes a king and marries Gwen'. Maybe if they'd shown that Merlin's not interested in romantic life or a family or if he had someone too? Maybe. This is just too... whatever.

Yes, I have issues. This surprises you why?

4. Obsessive behavior:

- Sherlock. Not really an obsession. I'm thinking of watching it from the beginning sometime soon, and I'm ecstatic to hear there will be series 3. Yay.

- That Certain Movie. I may have lost my marbles completely, but I still love TTSS. Love it.

- Tried to figure out if I might actually become a crazy Cumberbatch fan. After the War Horse, Whistleblower, Atonement and a few others, I'm saying no. He's very good, but... He's excellent in Sherlock and then my brain goes all gaga when I watch Peter Guillam, but I don't get the horrific teenagey urge to call myself a fan. Which is not a bad thing.

5. Next up....

- Movies! The Avengers! The 3rd Batman movie! The Hobbit!

- I kind of hope they'll start wrapping up some of the old shows, but since most of the new shows seem crappy, I wonder what I'll do with all that spare time if the old ones go. Oh well. I can always start some other hobby.
