Need advice!
Ok Happy Valentine's Day, blah blah blah.
Anyway, onto the important stuff. I have a (German) friend who needs to write a reference for another mutual friend of ours who is applying for a volunteer program in Ghana where she wants to work as a nurse for 6 months. The problem is, freely written references the way we do them in the States are not common in this country and my poor friend has no idea how to do it! I would like, then, to ask all of you (because there are enough advanced degrees among you that I'm sure you've had experience in this area): What makes a good reference? How does one even format a reference? Is it just like a regular business letter?
I'm asking you all this because, while I have had the fortune of getting references for various applications, I've never been able to see them.
