BIA this past weekend
It had been close to 5 months since my last SCA event.
Although there was no “real need” for me to miss Birka in January, my stress level did not allow me the peace of mind to be separated from Tam. To answer everyone’s question: NO - the baby has not arrived yet! She’s due this Friday (if she co-operates that is…)
I did make a very brief appearance at our Baronial Anniversary this past Saturday. I have come to discover how much I miss the group, and how much I would love to “come back with a vengeance”. Things will settle in after Rosalynde is born and allow a little more freedom to attend events again.
Although I was not there long, I noticed one thing on Saturday: some of the veteran crowd seemed to be in a funk. The spark, for some reason, was missing. I asked around about what was going on, and I guess some folks were stroking my ego in saying that it was because I wasn’t around as much. The SCA is what you make it to be. I wished there was something I could do about the change in mood of late, but there’s only so much a person can do.
The Baron has announced his intention to step down in the near future. This will be a sad day, as he is a close friend. But it will also be a day of renewal, as we set forth with a new vision and direction for our group. I will definitely want to be a part of this endeavour and help pave the way for a brighter future for our group.
