My dad is in India now, there to attend a wedding. This is his fourth trip; previous ones were with the Peace Corps (taught them about raising chickens), my parents' honeymoon, and with my grandfather to see friends from the first trip while they were still alive. He learned to speak one of the southern, non-Indo-European languages (and thus not related to Hindi or Sanskrit) while there. There is a marketplace or mall named after him in the town he worked in, with a painting based on how he looked in the 60s - so young! On the last one he took an all-black video at night of my grandfather snoring like a bear where they were staying. We had an exchange student from India too when my sister and I were little and my dad likes cooking Indian food.
To pay for this trip, my dad advertized on Facebook that he would cook an Indian dinner for each $100 donation. I think he has ten of them lined up, and part of his time over there is being spent learning new recipes and techniques in that village. Hope I get to try some of the new fare sometime. =)
