Refreshments for the soldiers

Nov 03, 2008 16:36

I passed through the war zone intersection of Sunrise and Greenback today. Then I went to Starbucks and bought a traveler carafe with 12 cups and a big bag of scones and went back and gave them to the No on 8 people.

There were 3 cops on each of the four corners, hanging out to prevent (more*) trouble. There were 2 pickups driving back and forth with gigantic frames in the beds, plastered with Yes signs and oversized American flags. There were overexcited high school students running back and forth with Yes signs. There were serious college students carrying heartfelt handmade No signs "Yes on Love, No on 8" and ""Gay or Straight, No on H8." They were happy to get the snacks and tried to thank me. I tried to thank them. Wanted to cry.

There was one sign that said "Yes on 8 = Freedom of Speech." WTF?

Warren is on his way now with more coffee. Darcy is going to try to buy a bunch of cheap umbrellas and distribute them.
