D'you know what conclusion I have come to? Teachers are bastards. I was with one of my favourite teachers today who was trying to demonstrate the way a lone dissenter can influence a majority and he asked me to 'pretend' that I was pro-homosexuality whilst he was going to try and persuade me to come round to his apparently feigned anti- ( Read more... )

I could go into a whole rant about narrow-minded professors but let me just tell you this - I started uni in the NorthEast (US) and finished in the south... talk about your differences of opinion. If you want to see some narrowminded fuckwits c'mon over to NC. I can't take these folks. Unless I am prepared to battle, I try to comment on their stupidity only when it's just outrageous. These people still think the confederate flag is cool. *rolls eyes*

Three Questions -
1) Name the places you've lived/been
2) What is the worst thing you've ever said to someone that you didn't later regret?
3) Why do you write? (don't give me the lame "it's like breathing answer" I know that! Tell me how it helps you or why you're compelled to ( ... )

OMG I am so useless when it comes to knowing anything about American culture. What are the main differences in opinion between the north and south? I sound like a twat, I know, but I’ve lived a deliciously sheltered life! And what is the confederate flag? Please indulge me!

1. Places I’ve lived? I lived just outside Wolverhampton for many years and then just outside Shrewsbury but now I’m shacked up at uni in Oxford. Places I’ve been? Quite a few as I used to travel a lot. When it comes to America, though, I’ve only ever been to Florida and a few places in South America. I should come and visit!

2. I once called someone a fucking bitch from hell and felt so much better after it ( ... )

Well, this is going to be very simplified because there's no way I could explain it properly in a short response ( ... )

The southerners (confederates) had their own flag because they wanted to become their own country and not have to deal with the northerners telling them they couldn't have slaves. South lost, slaves were freed and the Southern plantations that weren't destroyed in the war, floundered.

Ok, no way.

I have learnt SO much from that post because it was all new to me and I had absolutely no idea why the civil war was fought of what was going on there. That is so creepy. So it was all about slavery? Wow.

Racism was encouraged in the south.

Encouraged? OMGbastards.

You should come and visit!! You're welcome to stay with me!

Squee! Thank you! There's always a house in England for you, if you can find it amongst the rain and the sheep.

Thanks, love

There was a little more to it, but that was the biggest issue.

Encouraged? OMGbastards.
Oh yeah - schools, water fountains, restaurants all would have "whites only" signs. And people wonder why I make a point of saying I'm not from the south. *rolls eyes*
