Zdzisław Beksisńki was killed today.

Earlier this week when Hunter S. Thompson shot himself, I actually felt kind of bad, which, to be honest, is rare for me. He had a major impact on culture and journalism, and I did enjoy his work. He also had the dignity of being able to take his own life.

Beksisńki's work had a much greater impact on me. He was my favourite contemporary artist, if not ever, and additionally, he was, in a way, the sort of person to whom I could relate. I have enough passion for the things I enjoy and want to do in life, that I hope I will be doing them for as long as I am physically and mentally able, and knowing that there are people who have that same sort of drive makes me happy. He kept doing his art into his 70s, and when it became technologically viable, he branched out into CGI. Now there won't ever be another new piece from him. On top of all that, I am infuriated that some one broke into his house and stabbed him to death, partially because I'm afraid that they're going to find out that it was some demented, death-worshiping fan of his. Either way, he will be sorely missed.
