Diving rocks! Good night...
I you are wondering what the previous line supposed to mean, I can tell you that it describes my Monday in a nutshell. This is exactly how I felt after the first day of my crash course for my Diving License. Shurik already has his diving certificate and, like with every other thing be it ballroom or skiing, I need to catch up and fast!
Florida seemed like the natural safe choice, but hurricane Wilma changed all that in one swift blow. The dive shop through which I planed to do the certificate was somewhat damaged during the storm, (someone left the backdoor open, and almost all ceiling tiles came crashing down). Also, the pool they usually use for skill training (5 sessions) turned muddy green, and could not be used. Luckily, the guy who I booked the class with has offered to take both me and Shurik to his house and use his pool. We ended up having the nicest setup with a private location and hot showers (we where not even hoping for a hot shower as many residencies and businesses still have no power). Mike, the diving instructor, was even nice enough to give Shurik all the gear he needed to go in the pool with us and practice what he already supposedly knew (he didn't dive for almost 6 years).
The pool sessions were a lot of fun even despite the cold water. What wasn't fun, though very useful, were all the written tests I had to take. They made me watch two DVDs and then take five, ten question knowledge reviews. Five ten question multiple choice quizzes to backup the knowledge reviews, and then a fifty question final test to absolutely positively hammer the info into my brain. Rough, but necessary.
Right now it is the end of day two of the diving classes. I did all written tests and all the freezing pool sessions. Now all I need to do is four open water dives and the certificate is mine! I'm tired as hell though... Falling asleep now... Good night...
