today i heard a statement that i will probably never forget.

"now stay here because this is hot and it can set the house on fire.."

granted i was in said house while the words were being said.

i thought yesterday was cold, topday was worse. woke up to temperatures being -8. apparently a pipe of ours had frozen. but not during the night, during the day!

so my love and my dad who had already worked in the baby's closet to seal up any cracks where air might be getting in, crawled under the house, looked at things, and then got the torpedo heater and got it close to the pipe so it would thaw... never have i been so happy to hear the sound of a running faucet.

made homemade hot chocolate mix tonight.

i am in pinching pennies mode. not getting paid until february because the school had an error in the contract and didn't get me the correct contract until it was too late to turn it on time. so i'm skimping and saving as much as i can. emergencies have run my account low. i'm getting scared really. thank goodness my love has a full time job with benefits.

the goat conversation has turned into a dairy cow conversation that might come to fruition. 5 gallons a day of milk. we could make our cheese, butter, yogurt, sour cream and ice cream. on top of having milk. the goat milk isn't as versatile and isn't as well liked all around.. if we had to we could share milk. not sell it. that's illegal. but if we got a certified kitchen we could sell ice cream, cheese, etc...

it's just getting too expensive. and on top of that, the whole formula scare with china. in case you missed it, chinese babies suddenly started getting sick. turns out the baby formula was tainted. so like 50,000 babies were incredibly sick and hospitalized. i dont remember if any died. but that milk got as far as france. so it'd be easier to prevent scares like that, if we had our own producing machinery here. so instead of relying on someone for having good milk, we have our own good milk.

i have to say though i have never milked a cow before in my life. i will have to learn.
and i wil have to learn how to make cheese. and butter and all of that.
i never thought i'd be a farmer. but it seems necessity has brought me to it.
