There was a man that found a dog in his garage and when the chip was scanned my husband's name showed up on it. The guy found my husband on facebook (the wonders of the internet) and told him about the dog. We live in New York and the dog was found in Nashville. The last time my husband saw the dog was in 2002 when he lived in another part of ( Read more... )

The family that found it was really happy to get the dog back.

Seems the dog had a bit of good luck. Not only did it find a family who seems to care but also, when lost, it found someone who cared enough to look after it and track down the owner. It only sucks that it had to start on a bad note with the ex-wife. :(

Let them know they ought to update the info on the chip. ;)

Aww That is terrible:(

Thank god that family saved him. I bet they were so happy to have him back. At least the dog got a happy ending.

One of my mom's co-workers was arrested for having a Border Collie/Labrador mix tied to a tree, let it starve to death, and didn't even miss it until the cops showed up about the smell coming from her back yard. The neighbors thought a HUMAN was dead back there.

UGH! As the caretaker of a BC/Lab mix, this makes me STABBY! D:

Wow, incredible story. The owners might want to get his chip changed. It also sucks that the owners didn't have his chip read when they found him in the first place.

Heh. I actually have a pet whose ID chip isn't registered to me. Her previous owner has moved a few times and lost the paperwork, the vet who originally implanted the microchip has left the clinic, etc.

I support the concept of microchip ID for pets, especially pets like parrots who may have no other form of conclusive ID, but in practice, they're damned hard to keep track of.

That's too bad. I was going to ask if you could have the microchip removed and/or edited, but it would look a little sketchy to go to a vet to have a microchip removed that isn't yours with no paperwork...

Maybe you could just have an additional one put in? I really have no idea how microchips work besides "inject rice grain sized thing under pet's skin, scan it and you get owner information".

Also, icon love. :D

The info is kept in a database, I believe, not the chip itself, and you can update it when you need.

It sucks that your husband's ex is apparently a... not pretty word but I think it's a cool pretty cool story. Not only to know that a family did pick it up, but to know that, hey, the dog is still alive and apparently with a family that loves it!

He wasn't able to care for the dog at the time but if she didn't take it he would have at least tried to find it a home.

I didn't mean to imply that your husband didn't care about it, if that's how it came across. From the way it sounded, your husband was under the belief that, even though she was griping, she was still going to take the dog.

Oh no, it was just a thought that came into my head. I almost wish she didn't take the dog because he would have found a home for it instead of leaving it on the road but I am glad a loving family found the dog. I'm still trying to wrap my brains around this whole thing.
