So I work at a lovely
Tim Horton's and am a drive thru whore, so I see a lot of stupid with dogs during car rides. I recall posting last year about a woman who ordered an iced cappuccino with almost no cream, so it was all java - caffeine, sugar, and blended ice basically. And she shared it with her dog. I doubt anyone was surprised when the dog stopped showing up.
It's been hot to an unholy degree for the whole day, and even in our air conditioned store, all of the employees were sweltering. For the past two or three hours, it's been about 38 to 40 C (100 to 104 F), 36 C (97 F) in the shade, with a UV index of 8 or 9 and this winner of a man pulls through drive thru like the hot shot he is (the surrounding neighbourhood is a bunch of rich, stuck up snobs) and gets himself and his wife some coffee. The top is down on his fancy car, his kid and a cute dog in the back. Their small dog has a pretty thick, curly coat and is black and they're cleverly driving around with the top down, so obviously no air conditioning, and they ask us after their kid says the dog's really tired if they can have some free water. We're not allowed to give it to them, but that poor freaking dog was going to die so we did.
What kind of idiot drives around on a hundred degree day, a dangerous UV index, with their car top down, hot, slow-ass breezes flowing through their hair with their poor fluffy dog WITHOUT water?
Oh, there's more! I know a bunch of people are bird savvy here, and here are some pictures posted on a forum that I flipped my shit at a thirteen year old about (she'd replied to other threads that had the exact same warnings and felt pride in showing these pictures anyway):
(That's their new cage she bought. If I recall correctly, the last one she had was significantly better.)
"(sprite is the only one who comes out of the cage cause he is clipped)"
She never replied to that thread again.
I don't know how "controversial" this thought is, but how many people believe 100% of companion parrots should be clipped? On the same forum, I ran into a "breeder" who believed all parrots should be clipped because it's too dangerous for birds in a regular household. Maybe so, but I think it's all up to the owner to supervise and bird proof their home in advance. If your home or designated bird area can't be bird proofed, you shouldn't have a bird. She also denied that her babies needed to fledge before she clipped them. IT'S SAFER THAT WAY. Yet she continued to add a warning that birds can easily be stepped on when they wind up on the floor or be attacked by other animals. But flight is still too dangerous. "Well anyway they [adolescent amazons] were out yesterday and My hubby came in the storm door and the one decided to make an escape LOL out the door he went. Luckily he didnt get too far LOL down he went. SO allllll my birds well be clipped LOL. Cuz I know they can fly" LOL.
