I know this is a bit O/T but which is better, in your opinion, for cats, Chicken Soup or Natural Balance?

Chicken soup is nice, but DAMN my cats were stanky. I prefer NB.

I've heard good things about how NB affects their stankness, I think my kitties are stinky enough.

Natural Balance contains brown rice as the #3 ingredient, it's better than corn... but not by much. Chicken soup's top 4 are meat of some sort. They both have quite a few fillers, bot I suppose it's a pretty close call but the Chicken soup is probably better.

Chicken soup for the cat lovers soulChicken, salmon, chicken meal, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), cracked pearled barley, white rice, oatmeal, whole grain brown rice, potatoes, millet, turkey, duck, powdered cellulose, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, sodium bisulfate, fish meal, egg product, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, spinach, dried skim milk, kelp, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, potassium chloride, methionine, choline chloride, dried chicory root, taurine, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation solubles, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, yucca schidigera extract, zinc proteinate, vitamin E supplement, niacin, manganese proteinate, copper ( ... )

I found this on spoprevention http://petstuff.deadjournal.com/ scroll about 75% of the way down. It lists NB as better than CS.

Where are the citations? It seems somewhat like just another opinion to me. Check out these three...

My comment probably doesn't cover much for cats... but I work in a boarding kennel... And we recently switched to chicken soup for the dogs... and all it's done is make everyone sick since we got it... O.o; so we're switching back to our previous brand O.o;

How fast was the switch? Any change that is abrupt can cause sickness :(

well... partly that fault can fall on the owners of the dogs that board with us... Since they're too cheap to bring their dog's own food... however if they're switched from any sort of food they started eating, it's a mix....

However, the dogs that we had boarding before that ate Kumpi (which is the normal brand... switched because our owner is stupid and cheap...) under the same circumstances they're now eating the chicken soup rarely got sick... (of course there were a few... But mostly ends up being related to the peanut butter kong treats and stress)

Whereas with the chicken soup alot of the dogs eating it just don't do so well...

Sorry to hear that. I know chicken soup is a top pick among ferret owners (the cat/kitten varieties) because it contains good ingredients and high nutritional value. I wonder what about it makes the dog food hard to stomach.

I put NB higher than CS for the following reasons:

Even though the first four ingredients are meaty, the following six (cracked pearled barley, white rice, oatmeal, whole grain brown rice, potatoes, millet,) are mostly grain of some sort, and rice is listed twice, both as brown and white.

Powdered cellulose is an indigestible bulk fiber, which isn't necessary in a carnivore diet.

Sodium bisulfate is a chemical preservative, urinary acidifier, and palatability enhancer.

Ingredients listed as product may include an unspecified part of the product. Egg product may include eggshells, and may also not include any egg whites.

I think I'm going to go for the New Balance. It appears as if it has more protein and I'm liking what I've heard about what it does for the litter box.
