There was a
girl sitting in the lone seat in Lee's hotel room. She was just sitting, hands folded neatly on her lap, eyes on him. Lee was sprawled across his bed, sheets tangled around his waist and only just starting to come awake. He opened one eye, blinked blearily in the direction of the girl and closed his eye again.
Wait.
This time both eyes came open and he tried to focus on her, sleepiness etched on his face and hair sticking up at all angles.
"Wha?"
That was the best he could do this early in the morning. The girl didn't speak, didn't smile, just kept staring at him steadily. It was disconcerting and weird and it made Lee more aware that he was just wearing boxers. He had not gone to bed drunk, had not even left his hotel room so how had he ended up with a girl in his room?
"Uh."
The girl was wearing red but most everything else about her looked dark and fragile. Lee sat up in bed, continuing the process of trying to come awake and managed to ask, "Who the frak are you?"
The girl shook her head, a barely noticeable smile on her face. The quiet and lack of speaking was familiar (and this would all catch up to him soon) but he really wanted to know who the hell this was.
"You should probably like leave...now. I don't have any money or anything for you to steal. I'm broke and I don't want any trouble," Lee said, sounding a little more alert now. "Please."
He'd never thought he'd be polite to a would be robber.
Finally, though, the girl spoke. Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper and Lee had to struggle to hear her. "I can't go back to where I came from. Georgia's a long way and a long time from here. Besides, you love me. You don't want me to leave."
Georgia? Wait, that was really specific and Lee only had a few things from Georgia. Or, more specifically, from someone who came from Georgia. Lee's eyes went searching for the
heart in the jar and when he didn't find it sitting on his nightstand where he'd left it, his eyes settled back on the girl.
"No way."
All she did was smile again.
