Over in bmezine, leer asks for people to band together with a formal complaint against a hospital in regards to misinformation about MRIs and piercings/tattoos.

However, she is the one misinformed. It also turns into her own personal grudgewank against the hospital.

Well... I kinda never knew it meant that. Magnetic resonance imaging. Neat.

Don't mind me, I got all my health knowledge from House.

heh and there is an instrument that chemists use called an NMR which stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance which is the same thing, but they cut out the "nuclear" part when they started using it on humans.

Its an image thing. ;)

(and all it does is move your hydrogen atoms around and make them vibrate!)

Ooooh... that's really cool! I've never had an MRI (though I've had a ton of x-rays, go broken bones!). Do you feel the atoms vibrating?

Unfortunately, no. It does make a hell of a lot of noise though. :(

But if you're getting one for symptoms including vertigo and migraine (like I did), or if you're claustrophobic, they'll give you a Valium!
...it still sucked, but at the time, I didn't care.

I could've had Valium?! Oh well, they let me watch Monsters, Inc. so wasn't all that horrible.

...and if you have to go in them all the time, and you're claustrophobic, they'll give you oral AND IV valium, just to make sure you're really knocked out!

I hate the MRI, except for the valium bit.

I was freaking out when I had one. The attendant asked me if I had piercings and I said no... but then I started to wonder... Maybe I got some and forgot about it and hadn't looked at that part of my body sine! I don't have the world's best memory and I've got in the shower twice with a bra on, it was totally possible! Jesus! I was going to die. I was going to have the shit burned out of me. I was going to have a piercing RIP through the strange place I'd obviously got it in some drunken state. Oh the horror!!!

It was a long two hours.
