Over in feminist, volvita makes a post claiming that an ad for the new iMac is offensive because it includes the line "you can't be too thin" in reference to the thinness of the monitor and asks "Are they completely oblivious to the problem with eating disorders we have in the US?"
Some folks agree with her that the ad is offensive while others say it is a harmless slogan.
bastardinlove posts the dictionary definitions of "satire" and "humor" and gets a mod warning for making a personal attack
lineof_flight says "I find it offensive. Now, fuck this community" and gets a mod note.
katie_lee wonders what people here would be saying if it said, "you can't be too white." After all, the white color is just another superficial characteristic of a computer like its thinness, right? And the white color is also characteristic of Macs, so couldn't they use that phrase without a hint of social commentary?
