I've known women who've done this. Other mammals almost always do.

Not saying I would, just sayin' it's not unheard of.

There are recipes online for things to make out of your placenta. As crunchy/granola as I am, I don't think I could do it. I don't eat offals so why would I eat my placenta.

There are a lot of nutrients in that stuff! Seriously, from the standpoint of a mammal that has to struggle for every bite, such a wonderfully compact source of nutrition appearing as a side-dish to the offspring (which will need to be fed itself...) is hard to pass up.

Incidentally, people devise all kinds of uses for the placenta -- I've noticed placenta shampoo, for instance.

I plan on doing this when I have kids. I'll likely dry it in a dehydrator and put it in capsules for a handy pill-form, though.
