Is it me or is this whole "child free" thing getting to be a bit too much like the pro-choice/pro-life war? I mean really, who fucking cares if you want to breed or not breed. If you don't...then don't. If you do, go right ahead. I guess I will never understand why there are people out there who have to get into everyone else's business.

I don't tend to have children, but saying I'm "childfree" is like saying I'm right-handed. I mean...who cares?

All kidding aside, it does get really tiresome to be told you'll change your mind at almost-33, that doctors question your choices with healthcare, that idiots tell you you aren't a real adult or that you don't really know what love is. But the upshot of those is that you know quickly who to avoid, blow off, and get on with your life.

But why the hell do people think that they can question women's choices with their lives? Like you said, we can't win, no matter what choice we make WRT children or not. Latent remnant of the "fairer sex" bullshit?

Highly (and sadly) likely, methinks. :o

Mostly I think no matter what choice women make people will think they have a right to stick their two cents in, it's easier to just ignore them.

So damn true.

I imagine people in their RL might care. ... but what's the point of importing that to the internet? They seem to suck at escaping from the real world.

I CARE. The existence of every right-handed object oppresses me as a left-handed person.

That's how I feel. I don't want cars, rabbits, ground beef, necrophilia, pizza, all sorts of things. Sometimes people are surprised when I tell them. But it's not a defining point of my identity, and I wouldn't join an LJ community for people who don't ever want cars or who don't like pizza. It just seems like such a stretch to find people to band together and have wankfests with.

I was told the only reason I don't want children is because I'm too selfish and self-absorbed.

Because, of course, that's the only reason anyone would ever not want kids.

So, yeah, I agree with your comment and love your icon.

i tell people i'm never having children and i get that indulgent 'yes dear, you'll change your mind dear, now be a good girl and go play' smile.

the only reason i havent stabbed them is because i'm too selfish and self-absorbed ;)

*giggle*

I hate that attitude, because, of course, if you're female the only thing you could ever desire is to have children and no woman EVER doesn't desire that. In fact, ALL women who haven't had children regret not having them.

-> This is the crap I've heard. So I can understand why child-free was started, I just think they're being idiots about it.

agreed. the worst thing is that my _grandma_'s just about convinced she wont get a great-grandchild - it's my _friends_ who disbelieve me.

True. People just cannot stay out of others' reproductive choices, no matter what they are. I get sniped at constantly for mine, and it gets old. FAST.
