I had to leave a cutting remark in SPO. I know how I would feel if that were me asking for moral support for my chihuahua and some asshat decided to behave as if they were the chihuahua police.

I'm a broke student too, but when my Maine Coon Ichabod was ill I put him in his carrier and ran two miles to the emergency vet - that episode sapped my vet fund. I guess because right now I'm still rebuilding my vet fund, midnight_d would post me in SPO, too.

Sorry for the probable incomprehensibility. I'm seeing stars right now.

Ichabod is the most awesome name for a Maine Coon.

Some asshole dumped Ichabod in the shelter at the age of 5 months because he was, quote, "meowing too much." Turns out he had a viral sore in his mouth and it was very painful for him to eat, which they would have known had they taken him to the vet. *sigh*

They are a GREAT breed. He is smarter than any dog I've ever had.

Buddy of mine has the best maine coon ever. They're so HUGE and wonderful and smart. I've always wanted one. This one was a rescue, too. It saddens me how many of them wind up in shelters... I think it's because people don't understand they are just NOT like your typical cat. They're just not.

I've got one who's probably part maine coone. He's built like one, and he's got those huge feet, although he's a ginger... he just doesn't have the personality that I fell in love with, though.

They ARE huge. Ichabod is only 15 months old now, and he weighs 20 pounds already - not overweight, just, he's the size of a freakin puma. o_o

Too true on that. My Fulci was listed as a stray that the Shelter here found. He was mostly fluff and head when I adopted him and over time he just kept growing until our vet stated he's a pure bred pet quality Maine Coone. He's about the age your Ichabod is and that same weight. As far as smarts goes, he's fluent with disconnecting any and all computer and gaming cables with his paws (especially when one's in the middle of something and not giving him 100% adoring worship) as well as able to open cabinet doors.

Probably the only reason he's not been able to open the refridgerator is because the handle's too high.

I can see how they would be too much of a handful for some people. If unsupervised, Ichabod likes to knock my purse off the table, open the flap, carefully pull out my iPod earbuds, and gnaw on them. -_-; But I love him.

Oh, and when the aforementioned cat's previous owner left town and couldn't keep his cat anymore, we all fought over who would get to adopt him. ;) He's that great a cat.
