Exactly! You'd think that being poor with a bunch of kids and a welfare check that doesn't begin to get you anywhere close to the poverty line would be it's own negative incentive, but apparently all of that is a peice of cake. It will only be bad enough to get through to them if we let their kids starve. That'll work!

So, are you saying it's okay for some bint on welfare to pop out seven rugrats by the time she's 20, simply because life on welfare isn't cushy?

IMHO, that shit should be discouraged.

Yes, that's exactly what I said, I totally approve of women having a child a year starting at puberty and raising them in poverty.

Or maybe I was saying that implying that women do that because of a lack of sufficient negative consequences is a bit silly.

One of the two, though.

I don't think it's a bit silly at all, actually. Used to be, teenage girls were ashamed to be having kids. Now, they're called "brave" for doing so.

Don't get me wrong; I think the fathers of the babies should be made to feel ashamed, too.

It also used to be that pregnant teens were barred from general education high schools. If they were allowed to attend school at all, they were allowed to attend "alternative" high schools that substituted quilt-making for geometry.

The babydaddies were not forced to drop out, by the way. I suppose they weren't contagious.

Uh, yeah. Please read my previous comment indicating that I believe the babydaddies should be punished/shamed as well.

Yes, I said "punished" and "shamed." Two concepts that are anathema to too many bleeding-heart types. You ruin your life and that of your kids, you don't deserve to be cooed over and told how "brave" you are for performing a biological function.

I didn't say anything about teen parents being "brave" or doing their fetii a service. What I pointed out was that pregnant teens were kicked out of general education schools, and they received sub-par educations in alternative schools. Children born to teen parents will, as you said, have a really hard time in life - why make it harder by making their parent's access to a high school diploma?

Your previous comment seemed to be debating the wisdom of making teen parents suffer any consequences at all. I agree that they should be encouraged to complete whatever educations they can.

However, there should be less encouragement for them to have/keep their kids. Personally, I'd like to see abortion and birth control pushed more aggressively among teenagers, but this is the U.S. and you and I both know how unlikely that is to happen. I'd also like to see pop culture stop fetishing motherhood, particularly celebrities showing off their "bumps" and what have you, but there's no way to control that, either.

They should give us hats. They should give everyone who attempts to do something with their lives hats!

I like hats.

I have a really big hat, it can be used as a small boat in times of need. We need hats like that. Then we'd have fancy, useful hats.

I have a fully Stingy-Brimmed hat that i got in Greece. It's round. It's my favorite, but my greenish Fedora with a tattered feather is easier to wear. However, I had a dream a couple weeks ago in which I got the most beautiful hat in the world, which was a russet-brown color, and gently faded-gold brimmed (probly just a shiny yellow thread, which is better anyway), so that would have to be my preferred hat.
