Very small.

A movie is released about an update to the game World of Warcraft.

timetoknowbe in feminist is a very serious World of Warcraft player. So much so that she is disgusted, internets, at the misogyny supported by the game. This new movie is just the last straw. Please join her in writing to Blizzard.

Uuuuugh. Anyone who plays World of Warcraft or I Read more... )

I'm pretty sure the triggering part is in the mention of the word rape.

Otherwise, the entire thing is dumb. What should they have said? "Contrary to history*, women and children did NOT huddle in corners! Nay, the women armed the catapults and did fire upon the enemy with scores of small children, all holding pointy sticks and willing to bite in the name of all that was good?"

*Note that I'm not sure HUDDLING in and of itself is historically noted, but you get the general idea.

They threw small children with pointy sticks at the enemy?

I love words.

Not necessarily for <lj-user="grewnhyffar">, who likely knows already... heatermcca May 24 2007, 00:23:44 UTC
There are more than a couple cases of this, actually, historically. F'r'example, a walled town in Spain whose non-minor female inhabitants were all knighted (non-hereditary title) and IIRC monetarily rewarded as well for successfully defending the town in the absence of nearly every male old enough to reliably stick the pointy end in the other guy. They'd all been tapped to fight elsewhere.

So, arm the catapults? Hell, that, aiming them, making the ammo, and firing the damn things till there's no more ammo. (BTW, I can speak from personal experience that firing a catapult is a HUGE-ASS RUSH LIEK WHOAA!!!eleventy-one!)

As to the trailer, meh. Its storyline is fantasy. It's a trailer for a FANTASY-based role-playing game. Somebody's fantasy is evidently not women like those in the town.

Blizzard is clearly forgetting the many historical incidents in which adult men hid behind lines of the brave women and children who took up arms and armor to defend their menfolk, such as...such as...oh...uh...gee...I'm sure it had to have happened at least once.

Thats not true. Can't see a bit of skin on women in AO, EQ2 or Vanguard. Sometimes I weep for lack of a half naked toon.

I remember. I dressed and undressed my female dark elf because I just could not believe when she wore leather armor the buttcheeks were cut out. But they were.

i went on a rant about "triggering" to my husband just the other day. i think it was something along the lines of "if seeing a word bothers you so much, you have much more serious issues than needing an lj cut."
