badtattoos_4 strikes again

I like bad tattoos as much as the next guy. What i don't like is when people start arguing about all the good things Hitler did. Now, Hitler may have done some good things, But i do believe that the killing of millions kinda makes that null and void.
F-locked, so here's some of my fave comments:

Hah yeah I know, but she (it?) was definitely trying to directly compare it to genocide. The wording makes her argument look dumb.

"you don't consider the war and what's happening to people in your homeland (like katrina) to be genocide?"

Shit, I do. It may not be direct genocide, but he's sure killed thousands through apathy/his own agendas.

I'm not going to deny that, but genocide is more about race, religion or ethnic cleansing than apathy, so the comparison is kind of weak.

Genocide is not just "more about" race, religion or ethnic cleansing, it is exclusively about those things.

This is true, I just woke up and tried to make coherent comments :(

I don't mean to be harsh, really. I'm just a) slightly over-caffeinated and b) seriously freaked out by genocide. That's probably not a good combination.

It's not even close.

"Genocide is a term defined by Article 2 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) as 'any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.'"

Bush is lame for a million and one reasons, including his shitty handling of Hurricane Katrina, but genocide is serious business. There's really no comparison.

There IS a comparison. Very much so. Although Bush didn't cause Hurricane Katrina, he sure as hell sat on his ass and did nothing while people died for days. Of course, one can argue by sheer coincidence they were OVERWHEMINGLY Black and poor. (Cue for "there were White victims in New Orleans! That was a NOT a Black and White issue!") Bush had people in south Asia faster than he had help in New Orleans, so you bet your ass it's comparable to genocide, just like the Tuskegee Experiment was genocide.

I understand your point, but I don't agree with you. I'm sure I'd love to stick around and debate stuff, but I have to go help my ex-husband install a new carburetor in my '67 Beetle Hitlermobile!

I was thinking it was less about the levys and a lot more about the treatment of the people afterwords. To scaff Kanye West's rant:

I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a white family, it says, 'They're looking for food.'You see a black family, it says, 'They're looting.' And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the teacher-the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help - with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at ( ... )

That's true, but those levys have needed to be repaired for over 20-years, so it's not exactly just the Bush administration that failed in that regard but several administrations. Not that I'm absolving Bush and his cronies of their miserable handling of the situation.
