To be honest i'm kind of baffled by this phenomenon, but it seems like every socially conservative girl that i've graduated with is engaged, and then three months later facebook notifies me that their "engagment has ended"..
Why are these girls in such a rush to get married? This idolatry of marriage speaks to something almost sick to me.
To be honest i'm kind of getting sick of these faux-engagements. Why announce to the world that you're getting married to just call it off a couple of months later? Most of us have still barely cracked our twenties. I don't know it just seems amazingly disrespectful to the institution of marriage that conservatives yap about holding so dear.
Not to say that i am not going to get married. Heck i could be sooner than later depending on how life pans out, but it just seems like a lot of these girls are using marriage as a status symbol and an engagement is something to be tossed around before any real self examination or preparations are made.
